CONCUSSION INFO

What is a Concussion?

A concussion occurs when the brain experiences a sudden jolt or impact, leading to temporary impairment of brain function.  It can happen due to a direct blow to the head or a forceful collision.

Recognizing the signs and symptoms of a concussion is crucial for immediate medical attention and proper treatment.
Symptoms of a concussion may include:

  • Headache

  • Memory loss

  • Dizziness

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Fatigue or drowsiness

If You Sustain a Concussion
If the concussion occurred while playing Flag Football, or any sport, you should not resume playing until you have been evaluated by a doctor or athletic trainer.

There is risk of much more severe consequences if you reinjure your head before your concussion is healed.

You should not drive, operate machinery, or be alone for 24 hours after a concussion.  Symptoms may still be developing, and you could risk loss of consciousness during this period.

How to Prevent a Concussion

  1.  Although soft shell helmets are not mandatory in flag football, wearing a Guardian Loop can significantly reduce the risk of head injuries, including concussions.  Make sure the helmet is the correct, fits properly and is well-maintained.

  2. Focus on proper flag pulling techniques. Avoid diving and leading with the head to minimize the risk of head collisions.
